Bengal Clothing Manufacturers Demand Government To Abolish Energy Consumption Tax

In April 7th, representatives from the Bangladesh garment manufacturing and Export Association (BGMEA) and the knitted garment manufacturers and exporters (BKMEA) were petitioning the finance minister, Musis, for exemption from the additional electricity charges and natural gas charges at the peak of the beginning of the March (6%). The delegates also asked the government to reduce the loan interest rate by at least 2% and cancel the rent increment tax. The finance minister said he would reply two weeks later. Meng garment exports accounted for 79% of total exports last year.
