The number of deaths has risen from 15 previously reported to 17, with only 3 surviving. At present, the motive of the gunman is not yet clear.


St. Pedro Sula police chief Arias said the shoe factory had 20 employees at the time of the incident. At about 4 p.m., a number of armed criminals broke into the shoe factory and immediately began to fire workers on the work line. 17 people died and only 3 survived.

The gunman then escaped in a gray truck.

The dead man was a young man of 17-24 years old. Arias called the murder an organized and premeditated massacre.


The city of St. Pedro Sula is located in the north of Tegucigalpa, the most important industrial city in the northern part of the country. It is also one of the worst areas of public security in Honduras.

Many criminal gangs were driving a taxi or other means of pportation. One of the most serious massacres took place in December 23, 2004. Two main criminals in St. Pedro Sula, together with 8 others, opened fire on a bus carrying 50 passengers, killing 27 people and two main gunmen for 675 years respectively.
