ASTM International (American test and Materials Association) has revised the standard size baby bed standard (ASTM F1169) and non-standard baby bed standard (ASTM F406).

In the summer of 2010,

Consumer goods in the US

In cooperation with the CPSC, ASTM issued a new and stricter baby bed standard to improve the quality and safety of baby bed products and reduce the risk of accidents.

The 2010 ASTM baby bed standard is more stringent than the previous 2009 ASTM baby bed standard, which includes the following major changes:

Increased the destructive strength test of the bed plate.

The strength requirements of standard size crib quadrangle lath have increased to an unprecedented 80 lb (significantly higher than that of ASTMF1169-09 standard size 56.2 lb).

Increased baby bed side durability test

Requirements for preventing assembly errors

Increased requirements for baby crib attachments, such as cradle or diaper changing platform connected with crib.

The prohibition on standard size cribs with lifting sides will continue to take effect (with the provisions of the standard of 2009 ASTM baby beds).

Meanwhile, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is also revising the existing federal crib regulations in view of the fact that the baby bed recall has reached a new high.

CPSC decided to adopt some of the contents of the 2010 ASTM baby bed standard and make appropriate amendments, then incorporated it into the US federal regulation (CFR) as a compulsory law in the United States.

In July 2010, the United States issued a bill on baby beds legislation (16 CFR 1219 and 16 CFR 1220), which is expected to be passed by the end of 2010 and become a federal statute and become mandatory before July 2011.

In addition to adopting many modifications of the ASTM2010 version of the crib standard, the biggest change in the new federal regulations is the prohibition of the sale of standard size cribs with lifting edges in the United States.

Since CPSC tends to conduct retrospective tracing of cribs (unqualified products, whenever the time of production is likely to be recalled), manufacturers and retailers must take measures as soon as possible to ensure compliance with the requirements of federal regulations.
