According to the latest US Customs statistics, (2008) the imports of garments imported from the United States increased since the autumn. In terms of the import value of knitted apparel items priced in US dollars, last October, it grew by 11% over the same period in 2007, an increase of 6.4% in September and a 3.8% decline in August. In September last year, the amount of imported woven garments from the United States increased by 10.5% compared with the same period in 2007 and increased by 8.6% in October. According to statistics, most of the important textile category items such as cotton knitwear (338/339), cotton trousers (347/348) and cotton underwear (352/652) are slightly appreciated by the US customs. Take cotton trousers (class 347/348) as an example. Between the middle of last October and the middle of December, the number of Chinese products exported to the United States increased by 26% over the same period in 2007, compared with the growth rate of 9% in 2007. (c) the quota utilization rate of these important categories of textiles is growing faster than other restricted items. However, the decline in the quota utilization rate at the end of 2007 reflects a decline in US demand. Editor in chief: Hao Ling
