The First National Standard Of Intangible Cultural Heritage Textile Of Ethnic Minorities In China Was Officially Implemented

Zhuang is the most populous minority in China. As one of the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage, Zhuang brocade, together with Song brocade, Yun brocade and Shu brocade, is known as "China's four famous brocades" and is the treasure of Zhuang culture.

The reporter learned from Nanning Customs that on May 1, the national standard for Zhuang brocade formulated under the auspices of Nanning Customs Technical Center was officially implemented. This is also the first national standard for intangible cultural heritage textiles of ethnic minorities in China.

In order to promote the industrial development, Nanning Customs Technical Center declared to formulate the national standard of Zhuang brocade and won the project approval. It continued to investigate the weaving process of Zhuang brocade, led to contact relevant enterprises of Zhuang brocade, inheritors of intangible cultural heritage, scientific research institutes, and jointly researched and demonstrated the basic safety performance and other technical requirements of Zhuang brocade.

On October 26, 2024, the national standard of Zhuang brocade was finally approved and released. It is reported that the national standard not only clearly stipulates the terms, definitions, test methods, inspection rules, scope of application, etc. of Zhuang brocade, but also clarifies the process of Zhuang brocade at the national level for the first time, unifies its quality and safety standards, lays the foundation for the digital protection and industrialization of Zhuang brocade, and promotes the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage from "hand to mouth" to scientific inheritance.

At present, the industry of Zhuang brocade is booming. The derived clothing, decorative paintings, bags, accessories and other products are not only popular in domestic sales, but also "trendy" to go abroad and sell overseas, successfully realizing the leap from "small workshops" to "big markets".
